Spam Reporting

We often receive reports of spam or phishing messages arriving into mailboxes. This is quite literally a moving target. To assist with a substantial amount of spam that is not being caught by our filtering we need the example messages sent to us in a specific way. Please read the following details so that you can send along. We would like only a few examples and timely, by this we mean in the last 1-2 hours. After that our filtering has already adapted or that we likely have already resolved the issue.

To review a message such as this we need to have the message as an attachment via email to support@iinet.com so that it preserves the message headers, this is not the same as a forward which will only show the to, from, subject and date fields. The best way to do this is to reply or start a new message and “drag” the message in question into the body of the message as an attachment by holding down the mouse button and “dragging” the message into the body of the outgoing email. This will allow us to review the message headers which generally are hidden and better determine next steps.

This is done slightly different in various email clients (outlook, macmail, thunderbird, etc). In general however they all support this feature.

As much as we are happy to talk to you we will ask you to follow the above steps. By this a phone call is not the best method to resolve this.
